Mũmbi wa Mũgo is a Technology Consultant with Accenture, a global professional services company, where she has spent the last 16.5 years.  Prior to returning to the United States in 2001, Mũmbi had worked as a Technical Advisor with the World Health Organization and later a Swiss Foundation that had been incubated within the WHO, called Medicines for Malaria Venture.

Mũmbi considers herself a child of the Pan African world and has spent the last 8 years managing a not-for-profit organization with her late mother, Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo, in honor of her late younger sister.  More recently, Mũmbi is engaged in building the Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Foundation, in honor of the legacy of her late mother, Professor Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo.
