The Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Public Advocacy Initiative is committed to championing justice, equity, and social progress by lending our voice towards the dismantling of systemic barriers that have historically marginalized communities, particularly those of African descent. Grounded in the Foundation’s mission and vision, this initiative is centered on engaging in public discourse, mobilizing collective action, and championing policy to foster a more just and equitable society.
Through the legacy of Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo, a fearless intellectual and advocate for liberation, we amplify voices that have been silenced and stand unwavering in the pursuit of justice. The Foundation actively works alongside grassroots movements, civil society organizations, thought leaders, and policymakers to create meaningful change at local, national, and global levels.
A dual approach to advocacy
Our advocacy efforts are structured around two key dimensions:
Policy engagement
Through dialogues and collaboration with scholars, thought leaders and activists, we will highlight the conditions, needs and aspirations of historically disenfranchised populations, and promote public policy and legal frameworks that advance racial equity and social justice.
International solidarity & global advocacy
Recognizing that struggles for justice are interconnected across borders, we forge alliances with global institutions, human rights organizations, and advocacy groups. By engaging in international forums and grassroots initiatives we bring to light the systemic issues affecting African-descended communities worldwide and push for global policy reforms that drive lasting change.
The urgency of now
From economic disparities and political disenfranchisement to cultural erasure and systemic racism, the challenges faced by people of African descent are deeply entrenched in historical injustices.
The Foundation’s advocacy seeks to rectify these inequities through relentless activism, informed policy engagement, and unwavering solidarity.
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” The Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Public Advocacy Initiative embodies this truth, refusing to remain silent in the face of oppression.
