The Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Archives, a core initiative of the Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Foundation, serves as a dedicated institution and collections repository devoted to preserving and sharing the remarkable legacy of Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo. This online archive will offer both researchers and the public unparalleled access to the rich history, intellectual contributions, and inspiring life of Professor Mũgo.
Designed as an evolving and comprehensive archive, the Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Archives will provide a fully searchable, curated platform that captures her work, impact, and philosophy.
Our mission
The mission of the Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Archives is to collect, organize, preserve, and protect the full range of records that illustrate Professor Mũgo’s life and work. This includes a diversity of materials—printed documents, digital files, photographs, audio and video recordings, and selected artifacts—that will enhance both general and scholarly understanding of her work and her pivotal contributions to African literature, Orature, Social Justice, and African and Diasporic Studies.
As we build this archive, we draw on materials from Professor Mũgo’s estate and welcome acquisitions and donations from both private and public sources. By expanding the archive through these contributions, we aim to form a global mosaic of her legacy that connects her influence across borders and generations.

The Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Foundation is the exclusive steward of the Intellectual Property of the late Professor Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo, including any and all derivative works or materials based on this Intellectual Property. The Foundation is authorized to protect, preserve, and manage this Intellectual Property and its derivatives, covering all aspects of usage, reproduction, adaptation, and commercialization. Any reproduction, adaptation, or derivative creation based on this Intellectual Property, without prior written consent from the Foundation, is strictly prohibited.
The Foundation reserves the right to establish protocols, engage in agreements, and take all necessary legal actions to protect these rights and to advance its mission.
Copyright and Usage Statement
The contents of the Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Archives derive from Professor Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo’s estate and include materials provided by third parties with permissions granted or through donation to the Foundation.
Where authorship or rights ownership information is available, it is attributed accordingly. For works where third-party rights may be involved, the Foundation will make reasonable efforts to secure permissions from known right holders.
