Misrak Brhane is a seasoned program manager with a passion for building strong, inclusive communities. She brings experience from government, private, and nonprofit sectors, with a focus on policy, partnerships, and programs that promote economic opportunity, food security, and global health.

At USAID, Misrak led initiatives empowering women through entrepreneurship and helped shape the first U.S. Government strategy to address gender-based violence. Now with the City of Alexandria, Virginia, she works to promote inclusive community engagement through the coordination of public and private events.

As a founding executive officer of a nonprofit, Misrak worked with hundreds of volunteers to take action through advocacy, planning, and fundraising. She earned a master’s in public policy and urban planning from Harvard University and a bachelor’s in international and communication studies from Northwestern University. Outside of work, she enjoys playing soccer with her kids, photography, and traveling.
